About Blue Craft Farm
Blue Craft Farm is a pigment farm, owned and operated by Joneve Murphy, specializing in growing creativity itself. With more than 20 plant varieties cultivated specifically for color, we transform living plants into vibrant art supplies.
Growing Art Supplies
Through chemistry and careful cultivation, our plants become powdered pigments which we turn into natural art supplies. We grow coreopsis, goldenrod, indigo, cosmos, madder root, and weld alongside other color-producing plants as well as foraging for color around the area.
Our watercolor palettes will be available in 2025. These botanical pigments create naturally harmonious palettes with rich, saturated tones that work beautifully together.
All pigments are made from food-grade materials, though they are not intended for consumption or use on the skin.
The Process
What started during quarantine with kitchen staples like turmeric and tea has evolved into a full-scale pigment operation. We combine traditional growing methods with color extraction techniques, turning living plants into art supplies.
The farm currently has 2,500 plants in production, with harvest beginning in late summer. Each batch is processed using methods developed through years of experimentation, ensuring consistent color quality and the best lightfastness botanical pigments can achieve.
