Farm Share
The Farm Share is Blue Craft Farm's version of a CSA — community supported agriculture, but for makers. I started my farming life at 22 on a small vegetable CSA. The model has always stuck with me. The direct connection between grower and maker, the seasonal rhythm, and a shared investment in what the land produces. In the Blue Craft Farm Farm Share you pick your own botanical dye and pigment materials straight from the farm once a month, July through October. You bring your harvest tools, containers, and buckets. You take home what the season is offering.
This is a program for working makers and artists who want direct access to the raw materials of natural color for their practice.
Visits are scheduled in advance around your schedule and farm availability. Please reach out at least 48 hours ahead and we'll find a time that works for both of us.
The crop list: Marigold, coreopsis (several varieties), scabiosa, weld, dyer's chamomile, yarrow, madder, cosmos (several varieties), ruby rudbeckia, daucus carrot, tansy, eucalyptus (limited quantities). Madder and weld are generous but limited as we build our perennial bank. Several varieties of Japanese Indigo are available as a separate share.
All Farm Share members are automatic Fellows of The Ephemeral Society for Botanical Arts.
DABBLER SHARE — $30/month
Season pass: $120 (July, August, September, October — 4 pickups)
1 to 2 generous 5-gallon buckets of botanical materials per visit.
For someone just getting started, with a lighter practice, or curious about natural dye.
Indigo not included.
MAKER SHARE — $50/month
Season pass: $200 (July, August, September, October — 4 pickups)
Up to 4 to 5 five-gallon buckets of botanical materials per visit.
For a serious practice that needs real working quantities.
Indigo not included.
INDIGO SHARE — $40/month (standalone) or $30/month (add-on)
Approximately 3 to 5 five-gallon buckets of fresh indigo per visit.
Available July through mid-October, up to 4 cuttings while harvest allows.
WORK-FOR-SHARE — 2 spots available
Work-for-share is a traditional CSA model — you contribute labor to the farm in exchange for your share of materials. Four hours of farm work per month gets you a full Maker Share of botanical materials. It's a genuine opportunity to get your hands into the growing side of natural color, learning which plants are ready when, how to harvest without damaging the crop, and what goes into building a dye plant garden from the ground up. One of the most direct ways to understand natural materials is to grow them.
Same quantities as the Maker Share.
Indigo Share available for purchase separately.
Automatic Fellow of The ESBA.
Work-for-share spots are not available online — contact us directly to inquire.
Notes: The Farm Share is limited to 12 members total, 5 per tier. Season runs July through October, one pickup per month. Season pass only — no single month purchases. Scheduled in advance around farm availability.
