Duration: 2 to 3 hours
Indigo is the most fascinating plant I grow, and this class gets into why. You'll see fresh indigo that has gone through fermentation become pigment that can be used for both paint and dye. Then we will use fresh indigo to dye and pattern organic cotton using salt and ice dye techniques. We'll fold, bind, and twist to create designs. Part technique, part chemistry, pure serendipity. Every piece comes out different.
Every class includes a farm tour and overview of current growing operations.
What to bring: Sun and bug protection, water and snacks if you'd like. Wear clothes you don't mind getting colorful. Porta john on site. Dress for the farm and the season. Gloves and aprons available.
Take home:
- 2 organic cotton bandanas (most dates) or 1 organic cotton t-shirt (September 1) — noted at booking, t-shirt size collected at checkout
- A one-sheet reference guide covering all processes from the class
